Compiled by Radif Partners from the CMS landscape file of September 2026 · How the data is read
Mississippi has 51 Medicare Advantage plans open to anyone with Parts A and B for 2027, two more than the 49 of 2026, and exactly as many special needs plans, 51, of which 36 are reserved for people who also have Medicaid. Among the open plans with drug coverage, 34 of 45 charge no premium. Caps start at $3,800 and the median is $6,900. The list is long around Jackson, on the Gulf Coast and in the Memphis suburbs: Hinds, Stone and DeSoto counties list 37 or more open plans each. In the northeast hills it is shorter, with 5 plans in Oktibbeha County. Humana Inc., Health Care Service Corporation, UnitedHealth Group, Inc. file the most plans. 30 open plans are rated four stars or more. People on Original Medicare can choose among 9 stand-alone drug plans, from $5.30 a month.
Medicaid, Medicare and the dual-eligible plans
With 36 dual-eligible special needs plans, a Mississippian who has Medicaid as well as Medicare often has more choice than a neighbor without it. These plans coordinate the two programs, and people with full Medicaid can switch into an integrated plan once a month rather than waiting for the fall. Extra Help, which almost everyone with Medicaid receives, cuts drug copays to a few dollars: see special needs plans for who qualifies.
Extra Help: your 2027 drug copays
Most you pay a year (income 100-150% of poverty)
$382
| Generic copay | $5.80 |
| Brand copay | $14.40 |
| At or below 100% (full duals) | $119 |
Jackson, the Coast and DeSoto County
Hinds County lists 38 open plans, 22 free with drugs. DeSoto County, south of Memphis, lists 37; residents there often use Memphis hospitals, so check that a plan filed in Mississippi counts the Tennessee hospital you use as in network. Hinds (38), Stone (38), DeSoto (37), George (37) have the most plans, Oktibbeha (5), Lowndes (8), Lee (10) the fewest, around Tupelo and Oxford.
Rural counties and the PPO option
Across the Delta and the northeast hills, PPOs make up a large part of the list (27 PPOs against 24 HMOs statewide). A PPO keeps paying when you see a doctor outside its network, at a higher share, which matters where the nearest in-network specialist may be in Jackson, Tupelo or Memphis. The trade is usually a higher cap than a local HMO's.
A regional PPO with the lowest cap
The lowest cap in the state, $3,800, belongs to Humana Full Access (Regional PPO), at $212 a month: a regional PPO, which covers a whole multi-state region with one plan. The best-rated plan, Humana Value Choice (PPO), costs $0 with a $6,000 cap. Neighbors: Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee.
