Compiled by Radif Partners from the CMS landscape file of September 2026 · How the data is read

Rhode Island has one of the easiest Medicare Advantage markets to read for 2027. 13 plans are open to anyone with Parts A and B, and nearly all of them are sold statewide: Providence and Kent counties have 13, Bristol, Newport and Washington 12. Three parent companies file them, the local Blue Cross plan with 5, CVS Health (Aetna) and UnitedHealth with 4 each. 4 drug-covering plans charge no premium. In-network caps sit in a tight band from $5,000 to $7,150, around a median of $6,750. 6 plans rate four stars or more, the best 4.5. The 9 special needs plans include 7 for people who also have Medicaid. Stand-alone drug plans cost more here than in most states, from $13.30 to $284.70 a month; all 10 are listed below.

A state-sized service area

Because insurers usually file Rhode Island as a single block, the county you live in barely changes the menu. That makes comparison easy and switching between towns painless, but it also means that if a plan's network does not suit you, there is no richer county next door to look at. The question is less which plans you can buy than which hospital groups each one contracts with in the Providence area and on Aquidneck Island.

BlueCHiP and the national pair

BlueCHiP for Medicare Core (HMO), from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, holds the lowest cap at $5,000 and a $0 premium. Aetna Medicare Eagle Giveback (PPO) has the top rating, 4.5 stars, with a $7,150 cap; its name signals a Part B giveback, money returned toward the Part B premium. 9 of the open plans are HMOs and 4 PPOs. Rhode Island had 14 open plans in 2026, 1 fewer plans.

Plans reserved for Medicaid members and nursing-home residents

Next to the 13 open plans, Rhode Island has 9 special needs plans: 7 for people enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid, 1 for a chronic condition and 1 for nursing-home residents. A person who qualifies for a D-SNP can still pick an open plan instead; the D-SNP's advantage is that it coordinates both programs' benefits in one plan.

Drug plans: pricier in Rhode Island

The cheapest stand-alone drug plan here costs $13.30 a month and the median $114.75, both high next to most of the country. 1 of the 10 has no deductible. Every Part D plan follows the 2027 rules: a deductible of up to $700 against $615 in 2026, and a yearly cap on covered drug costs of $2,400 against $2,100 (CMS 2027 Rate Announcement). The calculator compares one drug bill under both years.
